Surgical therapy for endometriosis is sometimes traumatic and carries risks of complications and relapses of the disease. After the intervention, some women cannot become pregnant. The Other Gynecology Clinic offers effective conservative treatment of endometriosis. At the initial appointment, our gynecologist will tell the patient how to treat endometriosis without hormones .
Principles of conservative treatment
When deciding on the use of medications in the treatment of endometriosis, doctors take into account the following factors:
- the patient’s age, desire to have a child;
- the presence of severe symptoms and concomitant diseases (pathologies of metabolic processes, hypertension, heart failure, obesity, diabetes mellitus, systemic pathologies);
- location of affected areas and degree of tissue damage;
- preparation for natural conception of a child;
- results of a blood test for hormones (helps to choose tactics to suppress menstruation or normalize the menstrual cycle);
- opportunities to monitor the patient for several months to assess the effectiveness of treatment;
- individual intolerance to the components of medicinal products and selection.
Drugs used
The “Other Gynecology” clinic uses the following drugs to treat endometriosis:
- Combination of progestogens and estrogens. They include COCs, that is, hormonal birth control pills. The drugs are low cost and suitable for women who are not planning a pregnancy. They can be used for a long time without consequences. COCs effectively reduce pain several months after starting use.
- Progestogens. Suitable for the treatment of more severe stages of endometriosis, taken for a course of up to 8 months. They have unpleasant side effects in the form of unexpected bleeding, pain in the mammary glands, and decreased mood.
- Antigonadotropic drugs. They are aimed at reducing the synthesis of hormones, the signal for which is given in the brain structures. They cannot be used if the level of androgenic hormones is elevated. The drugs can cause sweating, weight gain, voice changes, and male-pattern hair growth.
Sometimes drugs to strengthen the immune system and drugs to reduce pain (NSAIDs, analgesics) are added to the complex treatment of endometriosis. To prevent side effects from hormone-containing drugs, antidepressants and sessions with a psychotherapist are used. At the Other Gynecology clinic, doctors have extensive experience in successfully treating endometriosis with drugs in hundreds of patients.
